But can she handle this great new responsibility, which includes dealing with a vengeful Chang? Chang captures Jake to resurrect the Dark Dragon and a battle ensues. Lao Shi, after learning what Jake did, restores his powers and Chang is defeated, but the Dark Dragon is still resurrected. Having learned how overstressed Jake is from his duties (which Haley gained a new appreciation for during her time as the American Dragon), Lao Shi promises to be less hard on Jake. Jake ends up graduating and even seems to have made his peace with Rotwood as the two shake hands at the graduation.

Jake and his family and friends are going to Hong Kong for summer vacation with Johnathon planning their trip using (unknown to him) a magical guidebook. This also coincides with the Thousand Year Toast at a temple that appears every thousand years from another dimension at the top of a nearby mountain. The Dark Dragon captures Lao Shi in order to force Jake to give all the dragons of the world a mind-control potion at the toast. Jake tries to enlist the help of Rose who he encountered by accident during the vacation, but she has no memory of him and thinking him to be crazy, has him arrested although he escapes. Jake lets his friends know and while Johnathon is away, Haley dragons-up to prepare for the fight and Jonathan walks in and learns the truth. Jonathan accepts it and he races with Haley, Susan, Trixie, Spud and Fu Dog to help after retrieving weapons from an abandoned Huntsclan base. Jake is forced to give the potion and the Dark Dragon arrives with Chang and Bananas B and orders Sun Park to kill one of the Dragon Councilors, but its revealed that Jake gave them a special tea instead that causes them to momentarily transform into other creatures. Before the Dark Dragon can get his revenge, Haley frees Lao Shi and Jake is shocked to see his father. All the dragons and humans team up together to battle Chang, the Dark Dragon, Bananas B and the Shade Demons. Haley and Sun Park capture Chang and Fu drives off Bananas, but the Shade Demons nearly overwhelm everyone until Johnathon and Susan manage to destroy them. The Dark Dragon proves too powerful for everyone, but Rose suddenly arrives and attacks him, holding him off as the temple starts to get sucked back into the other dimension. Rose is nearly sucked in as well, but Jake saves her. The Dark Dragon gets trapped with the temple in another dimension for a thousand years and Jake and Rose are reunited and kiss. Rose reveals that Jake left his jacket with the picture of them at the dance at her house and the picture restored her memory. Jake and Rose apparently get back together while Jonathan decides to spend the rest of the vacation getting to know his magical family, admitting to Jake that he'd always felt there was something magical about them.
